Atlanta Housing Authority Established
Summary
Atlanta aldermen establish the Atlanta Housing Authority, politically independent from the city of Atlanta. The AHA becomes responsible for eminent domain and tax exemption. Clark Howell Homes is created and is designed by Atlanta firm Hentz, Adler, and Schutze. It is named after Clark Howell, Sr., one of the businessmen who helped secure funds for slum clearance programs in the 1930s. John Hope Homes is finished under the AHA, named after Atlanta University System president John Hope.
