Empowerment Zone to Renewal Communities

Summary

The Atlanta Empowerment Zone Corporation (AEZC) approves of $12.56 million funding for the Butler-Auburn Old Fourth Ward Proposal to redevelop torn down neighborhoods--$8 million in low interest loans and $4.56 million in grants for public safety and social services. Pursuant to the statutory law, Atlanta’s official EZ status was revoked, but renamed as Renewal Communities (97% of census tracts that were formerly EZs were included in the Atlanta Renewal Community status).
