HOPE VI Program

Summary

The HOPE VI Program was developed from recommendations by the National Commission on Severely Distressed Public Housing to accelerate slum clearance and urban renewal. As a result, a $42.5 million grant was awarded to the Techwood Homes and Clark Howell Homes area in 1993, dedicated to revitalizing the existing public housing properties. Program regulations under its “public housing modernization” goal require the selection of housing units to be rehabilitated do not result from discrimination because of race, color, or familal status.
