Summary

The Public Works Administration is previously responsible for public housing development. The Housing Act of 1937 (Wagner-Steagall Act) creates the United States Housing Authority under the Department of the Interior. USHA becomes responsible for public housing, sponsoring 130,000 new units in 300 separate projects.
